Our love for coffee..

A very big hai to everyone who are following my blog posts.

For the past few days we are running around the word hyperemesis gravidarum and on our travel to Germany. Today let’s have some good old memories of my childhood days in Irenipuram. Whenever we pay a visit to Irenipuram, we just ask our Grandma (ammachi), ” Can we have a cup of your famous filter coffee?”. Yes, we are a big fan of her style of Kumbakonam filter coffee. So whenever my grandma asked “what do you want?”, we just ask for her filter coffee. And still now the famous coffee maker of hers is a treasure of our kitchen.

Whenever we hear coffee it brings smile on our face and the same happened when we had a visit to Munnar, so our artificial eyes captured what we saw, thus we had a memory snap of coffee plantation….

Lets travel along with the love for coffee….., Yes, there are so many memories for us  revolving around coffee…. During our first air travel we had the transit in Doha and being coffee lover, somehow found the biggest cup and had a big cup full of coffee from the hotel till flight take off…..and thats when we understood we shouldn’t feed babies with fluids during takeoff and landing…..and found a technique teether.  When we had our first visit to Metzingen, I came across different coffee collection from Tchibo. Since my grandma was a big fan of coffee I decided to present her with different flavours of coffee from Germany. Though I had the Skype call till last hour before her death and my parents hid that from me. Since I will ask my parents to delay, the last procedures till my return. Since Iniya was two months old, it’s hard for our travel to India. On the day of her funeral mass we were in Metzingen and I bought a pair of instant coffee bottle from Tchibo……and it reached India flying without knowing that the receiver is no more.

And I packed them to India through his parents who were returning on new year eve.

Our travel from Frankfurt to Tübingen during daysbefore Innus

A very big hai to everyone who are following my blog posts.

Hope you all have travelled from India to Frankfurt via Doha. Today let’s have a look on our travel journey from Frankfurt to Tübingen. Yes, we ought to travel southwards in Germany to reach our home in Tuebingen where he was pursuing his PhD in University of Tuebingen.

Since we had our early flight from Trivandrum, the capital of God’s own country, we landed up on Frankfurt at afternoon. Due to time change and improper diet on flight, I was very hungry and kept on nagging him to find something. To control my nagging he searched for a cafeteria, to have a mini lunch. Since we should be careful on intake because a small stimulation  of anything will end up in vomittting, which could  further end up in hospitalization. To catch our connectivity train to Stuttgart we ought to cross the road and we reached the first floor of the station. Somehow we crossed and reached the first floor with all those luggages. Meanwhile we found a cafeteria and he ordered something for me, since hotels were rare in my life. The person in charge parceled something which he ordered. I was shocked to see the parcel, since it was a sliced hard coat bread filled with lettuce, eggs and yogurt. Somehow I had those eggs and bread, without any stimulation of vomit. Finally, we ought to catch the train to Stuttgart and we reached the station. Though the view was awesome my health was getting detoriated and I had a short nap during our travel to Stuttgart. We reached Stuttgart train station and our train was waiting in next platform.

But my condition was very bad and made us to miss the train so we waited for half an hour to catch our next train to Tübingen. At last after a day long travel we reached Tübingen….and the longer days are waiting to welcome me….

Our field visits- succulents collection from Derendingen

A very big hai to everyone who are following my blog posts on various topics.

Today we can have a field visit along with Iniya to Derendingen a small town near Tübingen. The way we mark our visits will be familiar for the one who are following my previous posts. For new travellers of our blog have a quick glance on my previous posts to know more about our travel jars.

One fine afternoon, after our Sunday service in Dietrich Bonhoeffer Kirche, we planned our visit to Derendingen. Derendingen is a small town near Tübingen. We played in the fields, for Iniya to have a wonderful day. Yes, we learn along with Innus. On our way to the field we found some succulents and I packed some for our indoors. Since the weather in Germany played a major role for plants, we ought to plant them indoors. I made a big carpet out of gelbsac and taught Innus to plant the succulents. This made to remember my grandpa who taught us gardening. Though, he was a retired sub judge, from Tamil Nadu, he made us to plant various plants, so that we could know the pain of others. Since, he planted various habits which are peculiar, I decided to plant those on Innus.

We planted those succulents on a ceramic plate as a method of recycling. And finally the succulents became my backdrop for those little Easter egg basket. That’s what we can try in a 40 sqm room. But now she has a wonderful garden with pets to wake her up in the morning.

I just remember the proverb “if it is not bended before five years old it won’t get bend”.

Keep on traveling with us….see you soon with another post.

Blend of advent and Indian dish

A very big hai to everyone who are following my blog posts. Hope you all read the previous post on schokoladen festival– the festival of handmade chococlates. Soon I received texts from my friends wishing me as it blended the two festivals. So I decided to update the next post which is similar to the previous one.

Since the advent is nearing, we can travel through our advent days in Tübingen. During our stay in Germany we attended the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Kirche, where normal services are in Deutsch and an English service once in a month, which is followed by potluck dinner. Whenever I hear the term potluck dinner, I remember our first day in church. The day on which I had the lasagne, for the first time. Till my delivery I was unable to prepare anything for potluck dinner. So I tried Sarkarai pongal for the first time after Iniya was born, and I got acceptance from people around the globe.

For people in India preparing  Sambhar and idly is nothing, for us it like experiments in a chemistry lab. For  the idly batter we need to grind two different rice( langkornreis and parboiledreis) in a proportion and urid dal from getgrocery.

For Sambhar, we get toor dal from getgrocery and masala prepared from India. For vegetables, we ought to check for the available ones. I used to prepare ghee in home, so its homemade.

The service was over and the dinner was displayed on a table. We maintained silence to have the surprise. Our pastor took an idly and Sambhar in a bowl and had it with a spoon, praising the dish. My mind voice said… “Hurrah you passed the exam”.  Yes, they loved the dishes.

Hope you all enjoyed the first post on our advent days. Meet you soon with a new post on advent.

Festival of lights versus festival of sweets

Festival of lights versus festival of sweets

A very big hai to everyone who are following my blog posts. Today we are going to travel from India to Germany or vice versa.

We can do a small comparison on two different festival of sweets to travel, they are Diwali and schokoladen festival. Diwali, the festival of lights is also famous for its various types of sweets. The festival makes me to travel to my childhood days, when my dad served in City Union Bank at Trinelveli. We used to receive huge collection of sweets which fills our pantry for the whole month. Of which Iruttukadai Halwa was my favourite one. Because of its speciality we had them as a dish for our wedding, traveling all the way from Trinelveli to Thuckalay.

During our stay I missed those sweets and tried to cook them and I have updated the making of halwa in my previous post, which can be reached by clicking on the pic above.

I have seen so many people posting Ritter Sport chocolates, but for me it was just a chocolate. I remember the day, I was welcomed with three kilograms of Ritter Sport chocolates. After my daughter’s birth I was supposed to attend a birthday function in Tübingen, while in India we ought to wait for 40 days after delivery to go out and we should attend the church service for the first time as a customary. So we planned to attend a service and the pic below was from our first day out to church. Though it is ok to go out before 40 days, now I feel bad since it will degrade our health for a long term. So now I used to advise everyone not to be more intelligent and be stick on to the traditions.

Since I had the condition of #hyperemesis_gravidarum I was unable to go out during my pregnancy. If you are not aware of the term #hyperemesis_gravidarum do check my previous posts. To my surprise, the festival of schokoladen was about to start and we were planning to visit Münster. Since it is one of the unique festival we attended on a sat eve and had the hot chocolate after a walk through the cobbled streets.

After eight months of stay in Germany I came to know that Drogerie Markt is near Nonnenhaus. Though I havnt had the complete visit I was able to buy chocolates for my family in India. Yes, the famous Ritter Sport.

The festival is for the handmade chocolates and I was in the land of chocolates….I remember writing down my wishes for the first time when I was in school. One among those was “to sink in the ocean of chocolates” as in the movie Willy Wonka and chocolate factory. Yes, I was amazed to see those hot chocolates getting ready as a fountain. Those handcrafted chocolates are an eye catching view.

To have a view on 2016 festival click on the pic below.

Finally I could strike down my checklist without planning. Yes, people used to plan a lot for accomplishing their wishes. Mine were heard by God alone and gradually it gets accomplished. A few more were stricken off without planning…wait till I update them.

Our different travel jar collection (pines and succulents)

A very big hai to everyone who are following my posts. Today let’s travel to Sweden and collect some memories for our travel jar.

I have seen people taking huge number of snaps during their travel to various places. Though I have pics for our memories with Iniya am little crazy to collect something memorable from the places. As you have read my previous post on the memories from Minau and the way I crafted it into a beautiful gift…

If you havnt do check my previous post on that

We had our Sweden visit for his paper presentation in a conference ICRA 2016. While he was busy in preparing for the presentation, we used to have some walk around the old town Gamla Stan of Stockholm. We had a week stay there and had not visited the important places because the conference. Because of the late sunset we used to have stroll along the cities cobbled streets, Djurgarden and so on. During our stroll in Djurgarden, the park which holds most of the tourist point, we had a stroll. To mark our visit I just picked up some pine cones from the garden since I had  collected few types of  pine cones.

Those three pine cones where the one am describing all about. Then comes the succulents which I collected during our visit to Derendingen.  I have updated the Derendingen visit in my previous posts .

The yarn from Rico is one of my fav ones. Yes, I used this to make  Easter egg basket and some scrubbies. I have updated the way I made the baskets in my previous post under the tag crochet.

I hope you have collected some memories along with me by reading the post. See you soon with another funny travelogue. Hope you will try those little baskets by learning the basic stitches of crochet.
